What an amazing post ... thanks , I"ve been collecting bits and pieces of Clarence's work for over 40 years, and it's wonderful to blunder into anything that I've not heard ... just amazing, and it still gives goosebumps after all these years . I tried to fight my way through all the comments and I didn't see any mention, but at the very end ,and for only a few seconds, Clarence is doing his intro to "I might take you back again " . If you haven't heard it ... find it .! Trust me. I first heard it in the sixties and it still kills me . Thank you

Dear high card, 3027: I grew up in a Bluegrass town. When I left that place, I began to teaching musicians at a music school on East Coast. Part of the curriculum was a section on “occupational hazards”. One of the hazards of a working musician is loading in and out of the club. And I began this part of the clash with song from Clarence White. I talk about how important he was to our culture as he brought Bluegrass from Appalachia to Southern California via the Byrds. Song ends, and then I say, “ on July 15, 1973, at approximately 2 AM in the morning, Mr. Clarence White, one of the finest guitarists of his generation was loading equipment into his vehicle, and was struck and killed by a drunk driver.” As you might imagine my students fall into a deep and thoughtful silence. So then I ask, what are you gonna do to protect yourself when you’re out on the road? When the only people driving at that time of the day will be police, officers, ambulance, drivers, drunk drivers, and you? And Together, my class, and I discovered, from one another, and from the tragedy of clearances untimely demise things such: load your gear in from the sidewalk side of your vehicle not on the street side, don’t park your car at a corner where somebody can whip around that turn and hit you, don’t drink at the gig. It looks unprofessional and puts you in danger, not the least of which is from other drivers. I taught this class for over 20 years and I can guarantee you, sir that in the circles that I run, uncle Clarence White is a long way from being forgotten. I would venture to say that at least 2000 students heard that story, and I know, for a fact that many of them shared the story with their friends. This is how we pay it forward, is it not? So God bless you and your family and God bless Bluegrass rock ‘n’ roll, the state of Kentucky, Southern California, B-benders, and most of all God bless the life and times, and music and spirit of Clarence White.

John Hardy if I don't miss my guess? I picked up my first real guitar when I was 21. I am 73 now and I always go back to John Hardy[same initials as mine JH]. The whole bluegrass seen "caused me to weep and caused me to moan,... Met some of the finest bluegrass pickers alive in Braxton County , West Virginia,... Sutton. For a Northerner it was tough fittin in. Got sucker punched a few times just for ordering a beer! But when it came to there were none better. Buddy Griffin[From Flatwoods was the most amazing multi-instrumentalists I ever met.] Unfortunately, I let the moonshine and other ruin me. 😢. Still not a happy ending as I'm stuck again in the country with almost no friends to pick with. 😅God bless the posters of this dynamic duo, "Oh, so sweet" -Gordon Lightfoot.

Tony in his EARLY TWENTIES... absolutely f*cking amazing.. I thought it had taken him at least 25 more years to reach his level, but he was pretty much there already! RIP Tony, you were the best, and I am sure harps have gotten very cheap in Heaven since the day you passed away.

This woman is an ignorant ghetto raised hood rat but aside from that, I agree with her! Romney sucks big-time and I regret even voting for him. In fact, had the the place where I went to vote for him not been within 100 yards walking distance I probably would have just stayed home.
